Our Team

Dr. Karen Summers took over the practice of Dr. Paul Jacobs in January 2020, continuing a legacy of over 30 years of dedicated eye health and vision care for the Oak Hill community. Growing up in Victoria, Texas, Dr. Summers graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry after earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in College Station. She proudly served our nation’s veterans during her residency in primary care and ocular disease at the VA system in Boston.

Dr. Summers enjoys treating patients of all ages, from children to grandparents. Since moving to southwest Austin in 2012, she has been an active member of the community. Outside of the office, she loves exploring local hiking and biking trails with her family and cooking with her three sons.

Originally from Amarillo, Dr. Priyal Desai earned her Bachelor of Science and Southern Methodist University in Dallas before pursuing her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry.  With a passion for comprehensive vision care, she  is dedicated to providing exceptional care with a personalized and compassionate approach.

After owning and operating Austin Eyecare, Dr. Desai is excited to join the team at Austin Eyeworks and continue serving the Austin community.  When she’s not seeing patients, she enjoys hiking local trails, practicing yoga, exploring new restaurants, and attending music festivals.
 

Susan, our office manager since 2022, ensures that every patient at Austin EyeWorks has an exceptional experience. Originally from Virginia and a graduate of the College of William and Mary, Susan has called Austin home since 2008. Outside of work, she enjoys walking the hike and bike trail with her family, trying out new recipes, and watching TV dramas.

Ariella has been our insurance coordinator since May 2023. Her career in optometry began in 2017 as a technician, working alongside Dr. Summers. As an insurance coordinator, Ariella enjoys diving into the administrative aspects of providing quality eye care. She loves playing pickleball, spending time with family and friends, shopping, and discovering new eateries. Ariella is dedicated to helping others, fostering positivity, and solving challenges. She's always ready to greet you with a smile at the front desk!
